Hmmm...Glenside stump speaches on the mailing list...so this is a
thing now?

Given how relatively new some of this year's candidates are to the CoCo
community, I suppose it makes sense to entertain some introductions.
Nevertheless, I hope that everyone will excuse this diversion from
the normal usage of the mailing list! :-)

Before addressing the race for Glenside President, I would like to
draw some attention the the race for Vice-President. In particular,
one of the nominees for that position has long been a happy and
hard-working asset to the Glenside club. He has worked tirelessly both
as the editor of the club newsletter and as the unofficial "go to guy"
for all manner of club business for years. That person, of course,
is John Mark Mobley. If you are thankful that the Glenside club has
managed to survive over the past several years and if you want to
ensure that the club will continue to be strong, then you should be
voting John Mark Mobley for Vice-President. He has my full endorsement
-- if you aren't voting for John Mark, then please don't vote for me.

Moving-on to the race for President. I have been around the community
for decades. Over the years, the list members have seen my emails,
read my blogs, watched my videos on YouTube, and probably most
have listened to my podcast. I honestly doubt that I need any
introduction -- you should be able to judge for yourself based on your
own experiences with me. No one has done more to keep CoCoFEST! and
our hobby alive and vigorous over the past decade than I have.

I have been President of Glenside for roughly the past year. Over
that time, we successfully executed a CoCoFEST! back in May. Shortly
thereafter, our long-term venue notified us that they would no longer
be available for our use. We formed a search committee, gathered and
evaluated options, and chose one. So in 2020, for the first time in
8 years we will be out of the basement!! Bring sunglasses, as needed...

Thanks to volunteer efforts from Randy Weaver, usage of tandylist.com
for club organizational purposes continues to be gradually expanded and
improved. The current glensideccc.com site continues to be sub-optimal
for a variety of reasons, but we are continuing to develop buy-in
among key club members toward the idea of moving to a more technically
capable and usable site. If the community can avoid too much social
turbulene for a while, then maybe we can finally make a change on the
website this year. But change takes time, especially at Glenside...
:-)

Overall, things are going well with the Glenside Color Computer
Club. CoCoFEST! is moving to a better facility, we are improving our
technology (albeit slowly), and we are seeing long-term contributors
like John Mark Mobley step-up to serve as Glenside officers. Is all
of this the direct influence of my own hands? Of course not. But a
good captain picks a great crew, and together they get things done.

If you want to continue to see Glenside getting things done, then
you should vote John Linville for Glenside President. CoCo Forever!

Thanks,

John
