Yeah, and what do you expect that guarantees you? Nothing.

Retailers buy the cheapest products they can get their hands on.
They have no idea where StarTech and all of the other cheapy mfgs buy their
components from.
You can bet they buy huge lots from overseas mfgrs, and they all have
second sources.


We use a lot of USB-Serial multiplexers where I work. I wouldn't be
surprised if many of them
have the fake chips in them. As long as they work when I need them to-
that's what matters.
Buying them from another retailer isn't going to change anything.

Apparently, there is a workaround for some of the bricked FTDI chips though.
