The Altera DE-1 board is $199 from Altera.

The same software can compiled and ran on a Digilent Spartan 3 Starter board with the
option for the 1milion gate part at $159.

These are by far some of the least inexpensive boards out there. The DE-1 board has an
advantage over the Xilinx Spartan 3 Starter board in that it has 12 bit color for the VGA
output. The Xilinx S3 starter has more SRAM and no SDRAM. The Altera Board has 512k
SRAM and 8 Mbytes of SDRAM.

The tools for each FOGA are free and are rather large downloads. If you buy a development
board most will include the FPGA tools.

Then there is the alternative to design and do a specific board for the COCO3/3+. The Altera
DE-1 board uses a EP2C20 FPGA and that is roughly equivalent to the Xilinx Spartan 3-
1000. The cost of such a development board would depend on how many ordered. If enough
were ordered then it could come in less than that of the Altera DE-1 board. Any COCO
specific board would have to be at least 4 layer board.
