I can't make this any more clear.

It wasn't Phishing. It was a security flaw.
This wasn't the first time it has happened either. I had already told
her to stop using their IM client after the last time.

She was chatting with a friend at the time the machine got infected.
She signed off to go to breakfast and when she got back there were
popups everywhere. When I checked the time the viruses had been
written to her machine it was right before her husband had called me
to invite me along to breakfast and that was just before he told her
to hurry up and log off.

The previous time she got infected it was just by leaving the MySpace
IM client running all the time and the infection took place when she
wasn't even home. I had to clear off over 120 different viruses,
trojan horses, spyware... you name it. And I'm not talking things
like cookies that some anti-spyware tools classify as a threat.

Once again... it *wasn't* phishing!!!

Qoute from CoCo mailing list------------
As will all things internet, it depends a lot on where you go and what you
do as a user. Your friends probably fell for the abundant phishing efforts
daily dished out everywhere - not a particular problem of MySpace but
probably more exposed because of the social network impact.

I've had my profile there for more than 2 years now and never have had any
issues with spam nor hijacked account problems. By far the most annoying
thing has been the service's sluggishness from time to time, but I put up
with it as the network does serve a purpose on my musical ventures out
there, a few gigs for my band have come thru channeled by MySpace
contacts.

Speaking of the CoCo in social networks, Facebook hosts also a group
dedicated to the CoCo. Sadly (or fortunately, opinions vary), that outlet
has no means to display a public profile of the group, a FB account is a
must.
