I believe that this issue existed in MESS 0.70, or at least the Windows 
version.  I do agree that it seems strange that it doesn't appear to 
occur on MacMESS.  It very well could be a compiler issue, or it could 
be at some level an endian issue or even an uninitialized RAM issue.
