The Hitachi Part will act as a MC6809 when in "Motorola" mode as far as I know.. 
There is a mode register wrtie that puts the device in Native or Hitachi  mode and 
allows the user to access the increased instruction set and registers. Hitachi did 
make an HD6809 also as did TI and STMicro were second sources for the 
processor. Hitachi took the original design an improved it. Thus the HD6309.
