[Papyrus-L] Text Extract 'scratch' file problem

I found these bits of explanation buried in our support files:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
PAPYRUS needs to create a temporary file during some Text Extracts.
It names this file TXT.TMP. _Where_ it tries to create the file
depends on which version of PAPYRUS you're using.
In older versions, PAPYRUS would try to place TXT.TMP in the
directory containing your *.BIB files. In other versions it would
always use C:\. Unless there is no C: drive, in which case later
versions then turn to the current default directory. Finally, as of
Version 7.0.11c, PAPYRUS first tries to use the directory listed in
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file via a statement of the form:
SET TEMP=C:\whatever
If such a statement exists, then it had better point to a real
directory! If no such statement exists, then if there is a C: drive
on your computer the current version of PAPYRUS will use C:\;
otherwise it will stick to the current default directory.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
These days (which is to say, on Windows NT/2000/XP), environment
variables such as TEMP might be set not in an AUTOEXEC.BAT file, but
rather through the "System" control panel.
So figure out where your TEMP variable is being set, and confirm that
it points to a disk and directory actually available.
Note: one way to quickly check the current setting of TEMP is to run
the "MS-DOS Command Prompt". At the prompt inside the resulting
window/screen, type SET (just those three letters, upper- or
lower-case) and press Enter. All of your environment variables will
be listed, in alphabetical order. (To dismiss the MS-DOS
window/screen, type EXIT.)
