[Coco] SD to CF adapter in a CF to IDE adapter

I'm not a coco guy.  I use a lotech IDE adapter with the Model 3 and 4.  I have a similar arrangement - a CF to IDE adapter and a SD to CF adapter.  I have very mixed results and have generally given up on using SD cards.
I purchased two of the SD to CF adapters at the same time from Amazon.  The two behaved differently but neither perfectly.  I assumed one was defective so I did a return and they sent me a third which actually behaved like the one that I thought was defective - so at this point I had three since they sent me the replacement before I returned one.  Upon careful inspection I could tell they were slightly different and I had two of the one kind (call those A) and one of the other kind (call it B).  So I had two A's and one B.
The B adapter would light the activity LED but the A's would not.The A's would work as Slaves but B would not.I could not 'hotplug' any of them - that is insert it with power already on and then reset the Model 3/4 - I had to insert then turn on power. Some SD cards worked and some did not.
I was torn which one to return (I probably shoulda returned all three).  But since I rarely use Slave and prefer that the activity LED light I kept the B and returned one of the A's.  But they suck so I went back to using actual CF cards.  Actual CF cards seem to work fine except I think there are some that don't work as Slaves or as Master+Slave.  All work as Master only.

I am using a CF as drive 0 , and just tried replacing my physical drive 1 with a CF to IDE then the SD to CF in place of a CF card.    The coco gives an IO error when i try to open DRIVE 0

Henry,

I have an adapter that I use to sell when the sIDE was in production.

It was a 6n1, pretty sure the SD was one of them.
