They use surface mount 74LS245 (or equivalent). Those chips can be easily replaced... if you have experience.

Last time I checked, the Pro Tector costs $25 (plus shipping).

A new 6309E CPU costs $3 (or less plus shipping) OR a 6809E CPU for $5 from Jameco (plus shipping).

I believe it's more economical to buy a couple of CPUs and have them as spares.

Seems like the pro Tector did its job.   Now the question?   Can the blown pro Tector be repaired? , or does it need to be replaced?
