I am not sure what the source of your information is but in my personal experience with several CoCo 3 system using an unmodified MPI not only results in a highly unstable system but can actually permanently damage the GIME chip and render the Color Computer 3 inoperative. In short, DON’t DO IT! Make sure any MPI used on a CoCo 3 is updated to work on that system. Only a model 26-3124A (with the “A” on the end) model MPI is already updated from the factory. There is a reason Tandy offered this update as a free upgrade, it was serious issue. It causes a short circuit across the GIME chip when a range of addresses are accessed.
