I am very excited about this project. I remember how great it was to access a BBS with my coco when everything was still new

The end-result of all my experiments and research, in one blog post:

http://subethasoftware.com/2018/02/06/coco-rs-232-pak-to-3-wire-tx-rx-and-gnd-rs-232-device/

This is the minimum required to hook a 3-wire RS-232 device (TX, RX and GND) up to a Deluxe RS-232 Program Pak.

I noticed Greg-E-Term would operate with just DCD+DTR, but Ultimaterm and OS-9 terminal programs wanted DCD+DSR+DTR.

In all cases, RTS+CTS was necessary to make it work.

Feel free to comment at the blog site with any further corrections.

Lots of stuff coming down the pipeline with this…
