To add to my reply, both Gene & I were using USB to DB9 adapters so our length would be attributed to the USB.

Max. cable length spec for RS-232 is 15 meters.
Beyond that I would go to RS422/RS485, good to 1500 meters.

Just built a 25 foot drivewire cable and it works perfectly at this length
I am not sure how long you can go with a DW cable but the 25ft works great
I picked up 3 windows 2000 computers from my church. 2 Compaq and 1 IBM. I am going to use them as stand alone servers for my coco3, coco1, and TDP.
