I have also thought of what it would be like to have a more portable NitrOS9 (this dates
back to my OS-9  days when I wanted to see that on other things, too.)  I even mentioned
it here many, many years ago.  I line with my interest in more classic systems, the PDP-11
was my first choice but I could also see it running on a VAX and even the Z80 might be fun.
But, alas, I doubt abyone will ever see it running on anything else.  But I'm up for it if anyone
decides to try.  :-) (Come to think of it, I even have some M68K QBUS boards that have no
OS to run.  There's another target.  :-)

Exactly what Microware thought when they came out with OS-9000. It was OS-9/68K transcoded to C and could be compiled for other processors, specifically targeted for Intel processors IIRC. Didn't sell well, now defunct. OS-9 is still alive and well though, and there is an ARM version! See Home.

I wouldn't know about cost though, probably a bit on the high side. Might be worth looking into. No e-mail for RTSI listed (US owner/partner), but there is a phone number.

I suppose Nitros-9 could be done the same way, or can the existing source be compiled for another processor with some tweaking?? That's for one of you OS-9 programming types to answer!
