Inquiries through Microsoft will likely be forwarded to the legal department. My guess is they will nix any free use or public domain contributions. Could be some snippet of proprietary code in the old stuff still in use somewhere, and worse, it could set a precedent that could affect future cases. Better for them just to say "refer to current copyright law" and go on with their day. As stated, no profit in it for them!  On the flip side, they probably don't see the profit in "good will" to the computing community. If MS did release older stuff in the PD or at least make it allowable to use it in emulators (even if they are that specific) while retaining copyright, it would make them look a lot more favorable to some. Of course an MS OS is probably on 80% of computers in the US, possibly 75% worldwide... they aren't really concerned about a little good will... Frank Swygert
