Are you asking about IP checksums?  Or Ethernet CRCs?

The CS8900A datasheet indicates that it will append the Ethernet
CRC automatically unless specifically requested not to do so in the
Tx descriptor.

More modern chips can do IP checksums as well, but I doubt if the
CS8900A will do so.
