[Coco] more that one shell from an external terminal(update)

George, with that setup, you definately need DW4. You need to get that stuff backed up to virtual disk before you lose all your drives (they will eventually go as will the media)

I've noticed one thing about this mail list that bothers me... people are really quick to respond and tell you what you need, but very rarely tell you where to go to get it or what to do when you do get it... The only reason I didn't link you to start with was I was assuming you were already using NitrOS9! You rarely see someone still using old OS9 anymore.
As it was stated in one of the other posts, the speedup alone is worth it. There's no "new learning curve" as everything still runs the same. Only the names of a few modules have been changed (unimportant if you use ALL NitrOS9 system modules and don't mix and match with the old ones). All the old cmds and programs still work the same.
NitrOS9 is just faster and is the most stable version of OS9 I've run on the Cocos (and I've run most all of them, L1 & L2)

So, here is some links to get ya started!

For NitrOS9 and the NitrOS9 DW boot disk images:
http://www.nitros9.org/latest/

Look for the "nos96809l2v030300coco3_dw.dsk" (or 6309 if you have it)

For DW4:

For instructions on how to make it all work:

After you digest all that and get NitrOS9 going with DW4, we'll work on the serial connection :-)

Have fun!

I was just about to respond to Gene's post on this matter. This leaves
me in
the dust until I get my other coco working again. It will be about
a month
before that happens. WOP.... waiting on parts.
  No problem. I'll just keep
plugging till then.
The coco I'm using right now does not have room for
another card in
that cabinet, it only has one 3.5 inch drive and this PC has no

floppies. I looked through my drives, on hand, and the only two I have
are
1.44 only drives.
The other coco has two floppies and 3 com ports that can be
connected
to this PC via a DB9 to USB converter.
That coco also has a Ken-Ton
SCSI board and I have three drives to
work with to find out if I can get one of
them to work...to replace the
one that broke.
  Dangit!! I hate when things
break down. So far, both my CM-8s have
died and the hard disk. So, in time,
I'll be up and running as before.
Then I can easily get files back and forth
between this PC and those cocos.
I'm thinking of building another cabinet for
my CNC coco so I can add
to it. Right now, it's in an antique modem case.
However, I may not need
another case for that coco if I do get DWire working on
it but, that
won't happen until I get the broken Coco working again.
