Since serial ports are at a premium (that is to say, non-existent), and running single Cat5 wire is uber-easy, it seems like a cool way to go. Question is, has anyone done this and does it work? The feature list of DW seems to indicate it does, but I'd like to hear from someone who has direct experience so I know if it's a good or catastrophically terrible idea.

I know of that board. I have worked with some WIZNET chips on the Arduino. If these work with DriveWire, I can make an Arduino program and try it out on mine. If you have a need for it, maybe someone else will too and I can bake that in to the features of the device I have been working on. Initially, I planned to go to an RS232 pack for compatibility with existing communications software, but it would be easy to make another mode where it just did Ethernet-RS232 like this board does.

Interesting.
