Yes but there seems to be more complexity that what I initially
thought.

There must be a way to improve CoCo sound capabilities in an
economical way that can be utilized for Music and Games and take some
of the burden of the cpu.

A microcontroller solution seems the closest bet.

 If the device only accepts serial, like the Speech/Sound Pak, then it
would be nice to interface it like an RS232 pak, with memory access
versus bitbanging. POKE POKE POKE.

 Otherwise, one could take one of these and but MAX232 on it to get it
to RS232 levels and just plug it up to an RS232 Pak…

 Nick, is that your desire? To stream MIDI to it? It would be less
overhead than making music directly, I am sure.
