Comparing now to then, it seems kind of like a dim memory of an
alternate reality.. It's hard to connect how they could possibly even
be related.

When we bought a TRS-80, one of the guys from the store at one point
actually came over to our house to fix a problem and show us some cool
tricks we could do with the machine, and actually stayed for supper
with my parents. It was obvious they really had a passion for the
things they sold.

In High School, I would hang out in the store after school. We could
play games, sometimes I would write a little demo on the computer.
Sometimes I ever ran errands for the manager, like delivering a
deposit to the bank... imagine that now!

What store would give out free batteries to any kid off the street
every month? Or even just tolerate kids hanging out in the store?

Just from this good will and camaraderie, I ended up taking a strong
interest in computers and electronics and of course, bought a good
deal of stuff from Radio Shack.
