Many years ago I flashed my WRT54G with DD-WRT and a few months ago the
port-forwarding and the wireless stopped working. After a few hours of
diagnosis I figured it had succumbed to the usual 54G problem - overheating.
In a last-ditch effort I re-flashed with the latest DD-WRT and it came up a
treat - everything started working again!
I will say though that there's not much I could write about. Download,
flash, re-enter the configuration, and away it goes. I'm not using much that
wasn't already available on the stock firmware though IIRC; I think the
forwarding options are better but aside from that I can't recall what other
features I took advantage of, given that I haven't seen the original
firmware in many years. I did try boosting the wireless power at one point
but in the end backed off so as to avoid frying the radios.
Oh I think I originally went to DD-WRT because of issues with connections
due to my torrent client; it got to the point where I'd have to reboot the
router every few days! No such issues ever since.
Regards,
