Truth be told, the 6847 (VDG) 6883 (SAM) chip was NOT design for Tandy.

The support chips like the SAM are standard affair in any CPU lineup.

True! In fact, if you get a data sheet for the 6809 you will see that the CoCo1 was very close to the sample computer schematic that Motorola provided.
