very sensitive to the behavior of the parallel port.  As I recall, the
diodes in the interface had to be Schottky types in order to provide
sufficient margins.  It used some obscure BC... part number that I never
heard of before."

The cable i have is very primitive.... It has NO extra components, and i
never found it to be a "pain in the butt"

But then again it's a X1541 and not a XM1541
