Could you explain that? When I look at some early arcade games, I often see the initialization show what looks like bits and pieces of the character graphics. This reminds me of how the VIC-20 did all their graphics. The character set was created for all the positions and you were just writing characters to the screen display.

I guess it's similar to having tiny tiles?
