I've used the DE1/coco3FPGA with several LCD monitors, and the bands
you mention are much more pronounced on some than others.  I didn't
pay attention well enough to say whether it's certain native
resolutions that make the difference or some other factor, but it does
vary quite a bit.

At the CoCoFest, I found out that the monitors I had borrowed to use
for displaying the DE1 actually wouldn't display anything at all.
They were run of the mill 22 inch LCDs, not sure what made them hate
the DE1.  The monitors worked with other sources, and the DE1 worked
with other monitors.... who knows.
