Using flash for emulating cartridges is a PITA IMHO. If you have an SD 
connected for floppy/IDE emulation, then you may as well add an option to 
use it for emulating cartridges as well. Maybe a small 'boot' flash for your 
DOS, but game cartridges could be seeded in RAM from SD card...

Personally I don't like DriveWire because it doesn't work with software that 
accesses the disk hardware directly. That's not to take anything away from 
it, though...

As others mentioned previously, it is more likely to comprise custom 
firmware on a 3rd party development board, like the DE1, than anything 
developed for the Coco in particular. There is another board that is being 
developed specifically for housing in PC-type enclosures, called the 
'Replay' by MikeJ @fpgaarcade.com. Perhaps someone will port Gary's 
Coco3FPGA to that?
