That's very unusual and might even be unique. I can submit a bug report 
for you to MESS but we do need to be sure MESS was installed as required 
and that the hardware is compatible; video most likely.

However, if other emulators work correctly on this laptop, almost 
certainly the problem is an installation one rather than hardware. MESS 
has a track record of being acceptable on almost any OS.
