Depending on the model number of the MPI, you can indeed PEEK inside (using 
your eyes) to see if there is a daughter board sitting above the main pcb. 
If it's there, you can see it if you PEEK through the gap above the 
connector which fits into the computer's cartridge slot.

This is true only for the later versions of the MPI.
