Very well stated. You have to be sure of the specifications for the device 
you purchase. These devices are fantastic for replacing long wires for 
RS232 and other similar protocols. They allow the use of such serial 
protocols at distances that were never dreamed of 40years ago. 

If your  RS232C cable is a low capacitance type cable, distances of 
upwards to 1000 feet can be used. tyically the limit is 50 to 100 feet before 
noise immunity degrades the signal. These new BT devices that emmulate 
a serial cable now provide the distance without the hassle of stringing 
wires.
