If you zoom in on the picture in the manual, you can just make out a PIC 
processor near the middle of the board.

You can buy an FPGA eval board with a similar form factor for the same or 
even less, and then program it with whatever processor(s) and flavour of 
BASIC etc you like (such as a COCO emulation), not to mention have more 
expansion options like SD card etc. Something like the TerASIC DE1 at 
USD$150 would be at least 10 times more useful and powerful than this thing.
