Sounds like Alberta, especially Calgary or Fort McMurray.  The former  
is where all the oil company head offices are, the latter being the  
site of the oil sands--that's one really, really big strip mine.  Lots  
of single men (and Newfoundlanders), some of the most expensive  
housing in the country, prostitutes, drugs, big trucks and Hummers,  
etc., all in the middle of absolutely nowhere.
