[Coco] XMAME/XMESS questions

All,

Due to needing to see full DSDD images in my conversion efforts (DK's
and JV's emulators refuse to use such large images - they only seem to
like single-sided images), I went ahead and installed MESS/MAME on my
Linux box.

So far, things seem to work OK - I can see the entire images I created
with OS9.EXE, and everything appears to load OK. However, I am running
into an issue with MAME/MESS that perhaps someone can advise me on.

The version I am running was from a PLF package created for Mandrake
10.1 - it is version 0.97 of XMESS/XMAME (SDL). Basically, I can get the
CoCo 3 up and running, but I can't seem to use any of the keys detailed
in the man page for mess/mame to go back into configuration mode (ie,
TAB according to the manual). Furthermore, I can't exit the emulator - I
have to kill the process.

Is it because I am dealing with an older version (and I should just
compile a new version), or am I running into some other issue (I am
running under KDE, could that be interferring with the keymapping)?
These bugs won't hinder my conversion efforts (much), but they are
annoying and I would like to get them corrected...

Thank you for any suggestions...
