If you are asking about an emulated system, the JVC Coco3 1.9.1 version 
can mount two .vhd drives. That permits you to modify emudsk to use two 
hard drives and dsave data from one to the other, thus defragging the data.

You don't need to turn off the high speed mode whether on a real Coco or 
MESS.
