[Coco] Glenside IDE 2.0 ATA question

OK, using:
CoCo 3 (512K)
MPI (upgraded)
Glenside IDE adaptor
Boyle's 2.0Beta driver
cute little 700M ATA drive

Detect_ide reports 1427328 sectors total, but 0 available sectors.
Created descriptors, built a boot disk, drive refused to respond.

What do I need to do to this drive?  Junk it?  Low-level format it?
Install MS-DOS on it?  Take it out and shoot it?
