[Coco] Preparing for a job which requires knowledge of C

This is mostly related to the lawsuit over Microsoft's version of the Java
virtual machine (MSJVM). The amended agreement states that Microsoft is to
remove MSJVM and all products that use MSJVM by 2007. As a result, this
means Microsoft is dropping support for Visual Studio 6.0, older versions of
Microsoft Office, and several other products that use the MSJVM. You can
continue using Visual Studio 6.0 and Visual Basic 6.0 if you have the
original CDs (or an installable copy somewhere) plus installable copies of
MSJVM.

If you need an installable copy of MSJVM into the foreseeable future, I
suggest searching for msjava_x86_5.0.3805.exe (MSJVM 5.0.3805 installation
package) and msjava_x86_5.0.3810.exe (MSJVM 5.0.3810 update package) now and
storing them in a safe place because they will not be readily available next
year.

Microsoft will continue supporting Visual Basic .NET since neither the
language nor Visual Studio .NET have any dependencies on MSJVM.

I asked which version of
VB 5 or 5. The answer was Ver 5., which is almost 10 year old. The funny
part is Microsoft is dropping all support for VB 6.0 next year.

Vis Basic 5 is probably what I learned at Bell Labs around '97, and for
which I still have the IDE on my PC.

Is MS going to discontinue support for VB totally, or just versions 6 and
older? It's a great language when you have to construct a GUI interface to

your program. Visual C++, OTOH, has almost no such support. --Mike K.
