Neat trick... I'll mention that Linux folks have been doing this for
some time. One gotcha for those who want to try this is that not all
BIOSes have the facility to boot from usb key drives. Laptops are
especially bad in this regard.

In such cases you will need to make a CD-ROM boot disk or floppy boot
disk.

For those interested in Linux distros that can boot from USB key.

DSL & puppy fit on the business-card CDs so you don't even need a USB
key. If you do use one DSL can fit in only 50Meg, so it can fit on the
smaller USB key drives. DSL has the advantage if you want to run MESS
since it is a Debian based distro. Just enable apt, install mess,
remaster and reboot.
