Similar to free TV, they make money off of sending you targeted ads
along with whatever content you actually went looking for.

Public or not, if they're smart they will stay the course. Else they
will be a lesser version of Yahoo (Yahoo had a big head start). With few
exceptions, no one is willing to pay (much) for internet services.
Unless you can roll it into their monthly bill to the cable or phone
company, forget about it...
