My 0.02€:

please scan some "typical" pages of the Rainbow (some halftone sections,
maybe even color) with 300dpi and 24bit color and make it available for
download in a lossless format (maybe 24bit .bmp and zipped or lossless
TIFF. Never use JPEG at any point of the generation of those files).
Than let's start a competition:

Who makes the smallest but still perfectly readable .pdf file from it?

Reduction to 150 dpi is allowed if one could still read the "fine
print".

All postprocessing should be:

- reproducable
- done automatically by a batch processor

The "winners" should be able to explain how they processed the file
(which programs, which settings, which methods). Maybe we can combine
some of the ideas to get even better results.
