BeOS is completely multi-threaded, and was designed from the ground up to be
so - was originally written for the BeBox (a dual-processor 2 x 133mHz
beast) and was one of the final two OS's to choose between when Apple was
looking for a base for OS-X...

even the simplest app (hello word!) ends up being two processes.. one doing
the work, and one interpretting kernel/interface messages

this results in an incredible smooth OS which has no 'momentary hangs'
whilst a kernel/api message interrupts an involved process
