It is my understanding that the Hitachi version of the 6800 series chips
included some of the same new instructions that made it into the 6309.
And Hitachi documented the improvements in their databooks.

This leads me to believe that Motorola's 6809 second source contract
with Hitachi included language specifying not to make any improvements
in their version of the 6809. But Hitachi already finished the
microcoded designed and decided to keep quite about it rather than risk
a redisgn.
