Queensland is referred to as the "Deep North". This is a reference to the US
term, the "Deep South". Considering the attitudes of Queenslanders to this
day and the corruption of Queensland under Joh Bjelke-Peterson's leadership
(not to mention that of his chief of police) this is a pretty accurate
comment. You'll find many a tale of Bjelke-Peterson on the web.
