There are a few designs like this. The Motorola Four Phase Systems
S2000 has a 6809 which handles I/O along with a 68010 and a 6809 for
running software (two separate OSes, an OS-9 variant on the 6809 and
a UNIX variant on the 68010). Getting more off topic, the DEC
Rainbow also had a Z80 for I/O (which was also capable of running CP/
M) and a 8088 which could run MS-DOS (definitely *not* PC compatible,
it had a RAM cap of 768k rather than 640k).
