The Reynolds Surname yDNA Project is looking for an Administrator.

Duties and responsibilities of the Administrator, Reynolds Surname yDNA
Project:

First, the Administrator is responsible for outlining the requirements to
join the project on the FTDNA web page for available projects.

Next, the duties of the Administrator are to review the requests to join the
project submitted by the general public to ensure that these are responsive
to the outlined criteria. The Administrator decides if the represented case
to join can be accepted. This entails evaluating the circumstances and
family history represented by the applicant. If these meet the criteria to
join the project, then the Administrator drafts a reply of acceptance and
sends it to the applicant by way of FTDNA's automated mail system. The
Administrator can also use FTDNA's automated system to obtain additional
information from the applicant, as required, or to send a denial of
acceptance with information about the basis for denial.

This position also entails subgrouping participants whose test results,
based upon reports released by FTDNA, have matching or near matching yDNA
patterns and maintaining these on records hosted by FTDNA. This is
especially important in the Reynolds Project since we have identified more
than 13 separate strains in this ancient family.

The Administrator also performs other duties as required. These are in the
realm of general project management.

Qualifications for the position:

The ideal candidate would be a Certified Genealogist (CG) from the National
Genealogical Society (NGS). However, the incumbent Administrator does not
have such a certification but knowledge of family research and proper
documentation to validate research findings need to approach the level
required for certification.

The candidate must have a good understanding of the content of the following
publication:

Mills, Elizabeth Shown, "Evidence! Citation & Analysis for the Family
Historian," published by Genealogical Publishing Company,
3600 Clipper Mill Rd., Suite 260, Baltimore, Maryland
21211-1953, USA, first published in 1997.

This work represents the Holy Grail for guidance in citing sources used to
validate research findings. After discovering this book, the incumbent
Administrator bought one and required all of Co-Administrators to have one
too.

The candidate must have a good working understanding of genetics. The
candidate need not be a geneticist. Knowledge of genetics and genetic
testing can be acquired by the excellent conferences, on-line web occasions
and tutorials offered by FTDNA.

The ideal candidate would be proficient in the web site building tools, PHP
and My SQL. But, once again, the incumbent Administrator has not gained
proficiency in these languages, nor did Dr. Hull, the Project's founder. He
hired an individual to put together a site, then, to move the site to a new
host, 1and1 Web Hosting. The incumbent Administrator has taken a number of
on-line courses in these two languages and still remains incompetent to use
them fully. The upshot of this is that, as most of you are aware, the
Reynolds Surname yDNA Project web site has been taken off-line for permanent
maintenance.

Tools/software required to perform as Administrator of the Reynolds Project:

The Administrator uses both telephone, the Internet and, occasionally,
postal service in the performance of the job.

This position requires the use of a computer with word processing
capabilities.

This position requires the use of Family Tree Maker (FTM) software.

This position requires the holder to obtain a Whole World Access
subscription from Ancestry.com. This is needed to validate family history
information provided by project participants.

This position requires the use of TNG software. This is the only software
package that is capable of storing multiple family histories and, as well,
the source material upon which facts in the histories are based.

In order to post the family histories, etc., of project participants, the
holder must subscribe to and maintain a web site hosting service. The
current host is 1and1 Web Hosting.

This position also requires software that can handle data migration (up- and
downloading) of the TNG information and associated files from your personal
computer to Reynolds yDNA Project web site at 1and1 Web Hosting.

Please note that all of these represent items of expense which are currently
paid by the incumbent Administrator. If the replacement Administrator would
choose to join the Reynolds Family Association (RFA), most of these expenses
would be reimbursed by the RFA. It would follow, then, that the Reynolds
Surname yDNA Project would organizationally fall under the aegis of the RFA.
