Sure. The message you get applies to your use of the full wild card (here,
*.grp). It isn't an error message, but a notification.
Note that the opening menu for your groups gives you a Path and a "look
for". This is pre-filled in, but that's just a Papyrus helper - you can
obviously change the path, and enter the full name of the group rather than
allowing the group menu to prompt you for it. So, if you can narrow down
the possibilities, you can still get Papyrus to help you out, but now by
listing the first 100 groups meeting that narrower criteria. (Very similar
to the way it can help you out on journal titles or keywords) So, the most
obvious thing is to enter the first letter of the group. For example, if
the group you want is caries.grp, then just type a c before the * (making
the group c*.grp) and you can display the first 100 groups starting with
c. And, if you have over 100 groups starting with c, then make it ca*.grp,
and so on.
If you can't remember what you called it, you can either take a few shots
at it (remember, as Dave puts it, escape gets you out of anything), or
shell over to the sub-directory and do a list to find it.

Another approach is putting related groups into different subdirectories,
each with less than 100 groups (but I'd find this more cumbersome).

Which stresses the importance of having some sort of logic to your naming
of groups and the brief descriptors, so you can find things more easily.
Hope this helps.
