I'm not sure exactly what you want here. Also not sure if by
"bibliography" you mean the database, or a group of references you're
citing. Also whether you want to eliminate duplicate entries for the same
author, and what you want to do with co-authors.
I also suspect Dave has a much simpler way of doing it. But this will
work, if a bit cumbersomely.
If you just want to list authors only, with co-authors together with the
first author, it is very simple to do it from within Papyrus. Create a new
output format, which will list author only, in the format you desire. Go
to Format, then to Input/Edit. Put in a name for the new format (e.g.,
author). You can start with copying another format if you like, preferably
one which sorts alphabetically and gives the author names in the way you
like (apa might do it). Then fix up the number of authors you want to have
in the format by editing the sorting/citation style to tell it NOT to use
et al. Don't worry about the rest of the format material on how you want
authors to appear in the text, because this refers only to how the material
will text extract a manuscript, not to how it will list a
bibliography. Next, still in the format editing component of Papyrus, go
to Names/Year. Edit this to show full names (rather than initials) if
that's what you want, and to change the format for lists of authors from
the way it is (1 & 2) to 1; 2 for two authors (or 1; 2; 3 for multiple
authors). Don't forget to do the same for editors if you want to be
including them. Then, still in the format editing part, change the format
for Articles to 1 (delete everything else, including year). Ditto for
formats for chapter, book, etc.
You now have a format which lists the authors only, alphabetically by first
author, for all references in your group, separating the names of authors
for a given reference by semi-colons.
You can then use that format to LIST your references.
If, on the other hand, you want to include the co-authors in the
alphabetical list (without any link to which paper they are on, or the
year), then use this new format to list to a file. You can then use your
word processor to replace all of the semicolons with hard returns, which
will give you a list of all authors appearing on manuscripts in your
file. You will then have to use the word processor to sort the resulting
file. This won't remove the duplicates, but they will group
together. You'll also be able to spot differences in how the author names
are entered (e.g., whether you use name or initials, etc) although with the
year information removed, you'll have to go back manually to find the
references (e.g., with SEARCH or EDIT). This, however, would not be
difficult. You can also manually remove the duplicates in the word processor.
Sorry, but I don't know enough about the workings of Papyrus to know if
there is a short-cut which would also give you frequency lists (like you
can for keywords). This is, clearly, a brute force approach. But it
should work.
Now, as to why you WANT to do this..... (I'm picturing this list for our
database of over 9000 references, and shuddering.)
Hope this helps.
