My biggest problem is accessing the clipboard easily. Seems the only way
to go back and forth easily is to access the clipboard the way Mark
Thissen's papref.exe utility handles it.

But you have to deliberately access the papref.txt file. Thissen's program
monitors Papryus and loads from papref.txt into the windows NT clipboard,
but if you are using another program, such as WordPerfect, you have to save
your text as an ascii file into papref.txt yourself.
I haven't figured out how to get a WordPerfect macro actually to write
highlighted text to papref.txt. I can do it manually, but my macros fail.
What would be nice is a utility that can monitor the windows clipboard and
write text to papref.txt.
