[NHRC-user] Completely in the dark

I have a NHRC-7.  I am attempting to program it for the first time.  I
have a transmitter connected to radio port 1, and the radio does the
NHRC ID on power up.  I have the initialization jumper installed.

I am attempting to send controls to the controller through the Control
Receiver Input.  Transmitter #1 (the only one connected) does not
respond with 'OK' when I try to unlock or any other command.
According to the manual, I must turn on "Control Receiver Confirms to
Transmitter 1" before I even know if ANY commands are being accepted.
Since I can't get any response from the controller, I'm obviously
stupid and don't understand how to program this.  I don't seem to be
able to program anything as I don't even know if the DTMF codes are
accepted, although the DTMF light does light when I send commands.

Can ANYONE give me suggestions while I still have hair remaining?
