After many conversations this week, I am realizing that there is a huge
misconception out there with parents with little people.
Swimming lessons for your child DOES NOT equal water safety lessons for
your child.
Water safety has many components to it. Swimming lessons is only one
component. It is an “in the water” component.
Every single other component of water safety happens OUT of the water.
Every single out of the water component is a CRITICAL piece of water safety
but yet they seem to be overshadowed by the swimming lesson component.
Water Safety is not a "do only 1" kind of situation. It is a "DO ALL THE
THINGS!" kind of situation.
I’m on a mission to eradicate drowning and it will only happen when the OUT
of the water components are as important and as talked about and as
IMPLEMENTED as the IN water component.
** Being CPR certified
** Assign a Waiting Area
** Touch Watching
** Cell Phones Down
** Lifejackets
** Fences, gates & alarms
** Never leaving a water environment without closing, locking, securing and
double checking the entry point.
Let's do more with the OUT OF THE WATER components and then we will see
fatal drowning numbers go down and non fatal drownings accidents become
fewer.
