I think it’s the difference between painting the walls in the kitchen, or painting a portrait or landscape. Same tools. Same materials. One is just going through the motions and doing work, the other is art.

I expect most 9 to 5 code monkeys aren’t typically doing art.

But I sure know I took great pride in some of the coding things I did in my CoCo days, beyond just making a quick and dirty functional program.

Today we  can look up all kinds of information (such as the toilet paper patent someone linked to earlier). We can hear people pronounce their own names.

But before that, we just read and went by our own interpretation, or whatever someone told us.

This makes me wonder how many CoCo things we mispronounced. Famous programmer names or company names or even software.

Dungeons of Daggorath has always been  like "tag" me… but I suppose it could have been Day-gorath. And if it could have been Day, why not JIF versus GIF?
