I've worked with too many different chips to actually make that assumption. Toss in
a few triple voltage chips and your life can get real interesting.

When it comes to TTL, assumption is: vertical chip, pin 1 to the upper left, then
ground at the lower left and power at the upper right for DIPs. Other format need
the data sheet.
