I can't speak completely for Ed, but at least at CoCoFEST!, both
projects were just that, still projects.

Nitros9 would support both out of the box, since both emulate the things
they are replacing.

I know Nitros9 boots on both, as I watched it boot on both units at the
show.

No.

Yes and no.  I believe they can be piggybacked (CoCoMEM first, then
GIME-X into the GIME socket on CoCoMEM), but then the keyboard would not
fit.  As well, it's impractical.

Not sure what to say about that long term.  Since there's quite a bit of
conversation on the topic, I did reach out to Ed a few years back as I
was designing CoCoMEM to see if collaboration was possible, but I
believe Ed was concerned about too much functionality on the design at
once (I know Gary also suggested putting some RAM on the GIME-X design,
but received a similar answer).  Once the design is working well and a
new board needs to be made, things may change.  Of the two, the GIME-X
is the more complex unit, and the CoCoMEM functionality, coupled with a
few RAM ICs, would easily fit in a small space in that FPGA.
